A Florida man has been arrested in the fatal shooting of up-and-coming rapper XXXTentacion.
Michael Boatwright, 22, who was already in custody in an unrelated drug case, was charged with first-degree murder Tuesday, the Broward County Sheriff’s Office said.
Boatwright, of Fort Lauderdale, is one of the two armed suspects who opened fire on XXXTentacion as he left RIVA Motorsports in Deerfield Beach on June 18, authorities said. The motive was believed to be robbery.
The rapper, whose real name is Jahseh Onfroy, was pronounced dead at the hospital, authorities said.
Another suspect, Dedrick Devonshay Williams, 22, was arrested on June 20 — just over than 48 hours after the murder — following a traffic stop in Pompano Beach. He was charged with first-degree murder, unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and a probation violation. He is being held without bond at the Broward County Sheriff's Office Main Jail. He has pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Authorities are still looking for a second gunman, as well as a person of interest who has been identified as Robert Allen.
Anyone with information about the case is urged to contact Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS (8477) or log on to BrowardCrimeStoppers.org.
