Veteran broadcast journalist Bob Read serves as senior producer of INSIDE EDITION’s award-winning Investigative Unit as well as a managing editor for the program’s overall coverage. Read joined the program in 1990, and has been instrumental in establishing the show’s reputation for exposing scams, rip-offs and hazards that threaten the safety of consumers.

Under Read's direction, the Investigative Unit has consistently produced a variety of hard-hitting reports that have earned many of journalism’s highest honors including the prestigious George Polk Award, the Investigative Reporters and Editors Medal, the National Press Club Awards and Sigma Delta Chi Awards.

The unit recently produced an award-winning report exposing child labor in the United States at a commune operated by a religious sect known as The Twelve Tribes. “Our team spent close to a year chasing down leads and gathering evidence for this undercover investigation,” explains Read.  “The hidden camera report documented children working in a factory producing popular skin care products sold by some of America’s largest retailers.”

INSIDE EDITION’s report prompted the New York State Department of Labor to launch a probe of its own, finding multiple violations involving 12 minors who were engaged in factory work, which is prohibited. “It is particularly rewarding when our efforts prompt authorities to take action,” Read explains.

Read began his journalism career at ABC New’s “20/20,” where, during his eight-year tenure, he produced a wide variety of news, features and investigative reports. He also worked at “Dateline NBC,” where he produced mainly investigative reports. Read lives on Long Island with his wife.
